fair work maternity leave

Can my boss force me to take maternity leave early? I can still do my job just fine, I’m 37 weeks pregnant.?

I had planned to work until I am 39 weeks, but my boss told me not to come in anymore until after I have the baby. I am planning to take 6 weeks after but I don’t think it’s fair they’re telling me I can’t work since I still do my job very well.

You need to bring this up with your boss. Get in writing a reason why you are being forced to take maternity leave early and then you have recourse in dealing with the situation. Is the boss planning on giving you two additional weeks of pay? Cause if he is…great. That shouldn’t cause a problem. But the issue is he might be trying to think of your health and the company’s liability if you go into labor on the job…but you might be seeing it as a bad thing. Just sit down and talk to the boss, explain what you need as an employee and that you are planning on taking six weeks after the baby is born. If he agrees to your terms, then you have a plan. But I wouldn’t leave quietly, I would be asking questions.

Setting the agenda for equality starts now
