does aflac cover maternity

Do I have to take maternity leave? Is there a set limit before going back to work?

I’m currently the only person working since my husband was laid off. I’m afraid that if I take maternity leave we’ll lose our insurance and be evicted. I’m a second year teacher and I used most of my sick days due to complications with gestational diabetes. I’ll be starting this school year with about 3 sick days and 3 personal days. I have AFLAC but of course they do not cover maternity leave unless there is an accident. This is my first child and I am wondering will I be able to go back to work immediately as long as there are no complications?

Well, you should take a few days off to let your body heal. If you’re worried about losing your job, you should contact your HR department and see if you qualify for FMLA. This will give up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. If your hubby is going to be a stay at home dad, then you should able to return to work in a few days.
